West Indian Carnival

West Indian Carnival is an annual celebration of West Indian culture, held around the first Monday of September in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It is organized by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association.

I went to photograph the day, drawn by the music, the costumes, and the way a neighborhood gives itself over to color for one long afternoon.
